Ten Years After

After all the hopes I had of being creative this weekend, it just didn't seem to happen. All the unfinished projects remain unfinished and now it is Sunday night and I'm feeling blue!

I did take my mom to her hair appointment yesterday and she was a bit slow and dizzy, but did manage to get through it. Otherwise, I did typical errands and chores and found myself a bit caught up in the 9/11 coverage on television.

On Tuesday, September 11, 2001, really early in the morning, I got up and ready for work. I took a shower and washed my hair and went downstairs to get coffee and put on make-up. I just sat down to begin the make-up "artistry" and the news was covering a plane that apparently crashed into one of the Twin Towers! I was drinking coffee, watching the coverage and apply cosmetics when all of a sudden the live coverage showed a second plane fly into the other tower! I was shocked. I looked at my sister and we both said something like, "that was not an accident". That was at 6:03 AM, Pacific time. The rest of that day is rather blurry.

I watched the weekend coverage when not running errands and began to reflect. What have I done in these past ten years? Have I made any improvements to the lives of others? Did the events of that day change me? Did the events of that day make me change my own life? I don't know those answer, but I feel that the coverage has got me thinking about all of these questions. Life is really short and our time unknown, and life is not about going through the motions (something I've done for far too long). I must figure out what I need to do, what my purpose really is, and move forward.

In honor of this anniversary, I would like to share two very moving treasuries I saw today on Etsy, created by two of my awesome team members, NettiesCollectables and MadriganDesigns. Please take a moment to view these and also check out their awesome shops. As the name might imply, Nettie has wonderful vintage finds, and Madrigan has beautiful handmade jewelry! Vintage finds and handmade jewelry are just a few things I can't live without!

The other thing I'd like to share is this very awesome and very powerful Budweiser commercial that one of my FB friends shared today. It brought me to tears. Apparently, it only aired once, but I did hear that some cable channel played it today.

Here's to a brighter tomorrow for everyone! Please take the time to live your life to the fullest every single day, and I am going to do my best also. Can you imagine what a great place this world would be if we all could do just that!

  2. You make a daily impact on the lives of your family. Where would your mother be without you?
That was a terrible event that changed the way that people thought. The aftermath has caused even more innocent lives to be lost.
The London bombing happened on my birthday. For us in the UK it was another in a long line of terrorist massacres. I will not let that act of hatred spoil my life. I will not allow their ideology to influence the way I treat my Islamic friends.
Live your life with mindfulness. It's the way you act and the words you use that impact on people.

  3. I did the same thing yesterday. A day of reflection! I watched the coverage on tv since it was on every channel and it brought me to tears all over again. It is hard to believe that it has been 10 years already, watching that yesterday made it feel like it was just yesterday. It made me realize how quickly ten years can pass by and I almost feel like the last ten years have just passed me by somehow and I am going to make a better effort for the next ten years! I remember exactly what I was doing yesterday 10 years ago, I still lived at home with my parents and I was on afternoons at my factory job, I got up out of bed and walked down stairs still half a sleep and my dad told me to look at the tv, the first plane had just crashed in the tower and it was burning, I didn't quite understand what my dad was showing me and asked if this was for real or a movie? My dad told me that that was New York right now, for real! As I sat there in disbelief watching the coverage with my dad and balling my eyes out for all those people (I cry easily)the second plane crashed into the other tower right in front of my eyes! I watched in horror, it was just the most shocking and horrible thing I think I have ever seen! I watched the coverage until I had to get ready for work and when I got in my car and turned it on the song Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd was playing in my cd player and I couldn't help but ball my eyes out and pray to god all the way to work, it was a horrible day that I don't think I will ever forget! geez I am crying right now just writing this

  5. Everything we do on a daily basis, even the smallest things, has an impact on those we love. It may not feel like you're doing much but you truely are.

Ten years ago we were driving back from holiday when the news broke about the twin towers. We listened to it unfold as we sat in the car by the side of the road, not believing what we were hearing and what some people were capable of.

We talked a lot over the following days and weeks about making a difference. Ten years on am I a better person? I haven't the faintest idea, only others can make that judgement. Am I a different person? Definitely.
